Cartooning 1
Images by instructor, Anthony Harrison
In Life Drawing for the Illustrator, we work with models and produce character designs and illustrations from literary classics such as Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Conan the Barbarian and Pride & Prejudice.
This course explores a variety of techniques and media in rendering the human figure, including pencil, pen and ink, ink and wash, and watercolour. During the in-class model sessions, emphasis is placed on drawing the nude in short, medium and long poses, using gesture, contour, and constructive drawing techniques.
Students select a term project based on a literary source, produce character designs and a final image illustrating a scene from that source. The method of course delivery is by instructor demonstrations, lectures, in-class model sessions, and class discussion. Students are responsible for two projects, which may be completed using either traditional or digital media, or a combination of the two.
