Children's Book Illustration

Children’s Book Illustration is a course based on introductory level drawing and painting skills. We work with such classics as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast. We interpret those and others by creating character designs in pen and ink, watercolour, and coloured pencil, with mixed media and digital media options possible as well. We then place those characters in finished illustrations. Through a series of drawing and painting exercises, students learn techniques of character design, composition, perspective and rendering.

This online course features pre-recorded tutorial videos that students can watch during the week at their convenience, as well as weekly live video discussions, both full-class and one-on-one sessions with the instructor.

Students are responsible for three pieces of submitted material.
