Children’s Book Illustration 2 picks up from the introductory course and presents an in-depth exploration of drawing techniques, media handling, perspective, character design, storytelling and composition.
This online course features pre-recorded tutorial videos that you can watch during the week when it is convenient for you, as well as weekly live video discussions, both full-class and one-on-one sessions with the instructor.
The focus of the material is on the development of a two-page spread illustration that is derived from a published literary source. Process work for this illustration includes two projects and a series of exercises involving fundamentals of drawing, research sketching, colour theory, perspective drawing, design principles, rendering techniques, character design, and compositional theory. Media explored in the tutorial demonstrations includes pencil, coloured pencil, pen and ink, ink wash, watercolour, mixed media, and digital media. Students are responsible for three pieces of submitted material.
